• IE7 won’t run (7 RC1)

I installed the latest beta of IE7 (RC1) and it locked up solid without loading the home page or any toolbars. I reinstalled it and exactly the same thing happened again. Fortunately the advertised ability to revert to the previously installed version worked like a champ, and I’m back to IE6 without a problem. Anyone else seen or heard of this? Any ideas what might be happening? Several months ago I tried an earlier release of beta 2 and that worked fine, by itself, but it seemed to be causing Outlook 2003 to crash. I uninstalled it and Outlook stopped misbehaving, so I stayed with IE6 until now.

      Hi Andrew,

I had a similar experience. The uninstall of IE7 by itself would not work for me and I had to use my True Image backup to restore to the state of the environment before the install.

I have many add-ons in IE6 and suspect that might have been part of the problem when updating from IE6 to IE7. One of my secondary systems has a similar environment to my main system. I’m going to try the install of IE7 on the secondary system to see if like problems occur. If so, I’ll reset that environment and remove all the add-ons in IE6 and try again. I’ll report back when I have had a chance to setup the testbed.

      Cheers, Bob

That’s why they call them “beta” versions. smile

I’d wait until MS practically forces the new version down your throat. Why would you want to trash your primary system running beta tests on new software for the 800 lb. gorilla ??? shrug

Hey Andrew, just an update to our previous notes re problems with IE7 Beta. I had reported that I was experiencing like problems (freezes) and believed that my add-ons were causing the problem. Well, I never did find the time to test my theory by eliminating the add-ons and then re-installing IE7 Beta.

However, five days ago, I downloaded the IE7 final release, backed up my system with True Image and then installed IE7. I have been running for 5 days now and everything is smooth as could be. I purposely installed with the add-ons active to see if the final release had the same problems in my environment. As stated, everything is running perfectly.

Oh joy is me !!! grin

      Cheers, Bob
