Typo in subject corrected by HansV

I seem to be getting a problem with the icons displayed by IE7.

The Address bar and the tabs seem to display the wrong icons sometimes. I can’t manage to work out any logic to it yet I’ve attached a picture showing the wrong icons.

The web site represents the BBC’s webs site, but the icons are from a photographic accessories site I was on earlier today. I have also re-booted since then. As I say, I can’t see any pattern as to what icon is displayed.

    Any suggestions

    Thanks

    Colin

PS I did a search on Favicons on the group, but didn’t spot any obvious answers.

All I can suggest is to run a progam like AM-DeadLink – Download FavIcons and detect dead links in your browser bookmarks to rebuild all your favicons. Press the little apple button, then be sure to set it to “Override existing icons”.

      Colin,
Have you tried MS Power Toys, “Tweak UI” to repair the Icon cache?
You can download the latest version 2.10 HERE

If you have a prior version of Tweak UI, uninstall it first before using the newer version.

I just thought that I would hijack this thread as I have been experiencing the same problem. See post 710,608

I tried Alan’s ‘fix’ twice, re-booting after each attempt, but it made no difference at all. Clever (looking) piece of software, but it had no affect?? I did follow Alan’s instructions and the software appeared to be working, just did not do anything.

Bob’s Tweak UI did the trick though, all my icons now appear as they should!!

        Many Thanks to you both.

Strangely though, the quality of my desktop, quick-launch and folder icon’s has seriously decreased some-what! Certainly the Internet Explorer icon’s have decreased in quality the most??

Are you sure that you haven’t switched your display to 8- or 16-bit colours instead of 24-bits?

mmmmmm, not intentionally!! Though switching back to 32 (from 16) did the trick!

              Cheers Hans
