Been getting alot of calls about spyware on PCs. So I started running SPYBOT and Ad-Aware. They find the problems in the directories and in the registry, but IE still runns very slow or not at all. I tried re-installing IE6SP1 but it still does not work and I end up re-imaging the systems. Can’t seem to fine any info from Microsoft. Any clues?

    Thanks

I’ve never tried either AdAware or Spybot Search & Destroy, but is it possible to run them with an option to just tell you what they find rather than making any system changes? That would help identify where something could be going wrong during the “fixing” process.

Jefferson, Yes. Neither product autoamtically makes changes. You get to see what they’ve found and choose what you want removed.

You might try unchecking “Check for Server Certificate Revocation” in Start|Settings|Control Panel|Internet Options|Advanced|Security. If that does work, you could have a look at this post. HTH

Ad-Aware has a log of what it found. I thought it makes a backup of what it removes, in the quarantine section, but I’m not sure. Spybot does also, in a Recovery folder. Perhaps you can reverse the changes & see if that’s the cause.

I am assuming that behaviour of the browser prior to running these items was acceptable? Can you please described the performance of the browser before, and after, in more detail?

Also, are the systems you are referring to all running on the same image? Or are they separate installations that exhibit similar symptoms?
