• IE Icon on Desktop (5.01)

Following the information in WOW Vol. 6 No. 41 about updating IE in order to patch Outlook , I did so. However, one of the unintended consequences is that there is now an IE icon on my desktop. It appears that this is NOT a shortcut as I can’t delete it by dragging it and dropping it in the Recycle Bin. Also, when I attempt to move it to a folder, I get the message that I cannot move it and am asked whether I want to create a shortcut.

How can I get rid of this? I resent the arrogance of Microsoft in “forcing” onto MY desktop an icon that I don’t want. I already have a shortcut to IE, and it is where I want it.

    Thanks for any help.

    Regards,

    David Luery

Alternate method sit a four year old down with nothing on the desktop but the IE icon and the pointer for the mouse. What he did I do not know but the icon disappeared and IE still works from the menu.
