IE 8 Sorting

In IE 6 after right click sorting of bookmarks the screen would refresh to reflect the new sort order and the favorites would remain on screen. The list of favorites, etc. would not close or disappear.

In IE 8, possibly IE 7, as soon as the sort completes all the favorites disappear as the bookmarks closes.

Is there any way to have all the favorites entries remain on the screen so they can be used without either reopening the favorites lists OR double clicking on the particular favorites folder that is desired?

I am running Vista Home Premium 64 bit.

I use the “Favorites Center” on the right side of the IE pane and it is always open.

1. Click on the “Favorites” button on the far left to open the “Favorites Center” (menu)
2. Click on the little arrow button on the right of the menu (this pins the menu, i.e., it stays open)
3. DONE

Thank you both but that is not what I want. I don’t want the favorites to be permanently open. I only want them open when I am sorting, post sorting, etc. I’d like to have the favorites remain on screen AFTER a sort is performed for further use and not have to reopen the list of favorites without resorting to your suggestions to use another feature.

I was hoping someone knew if this behavior was dropped when IE 7 or 8 was introduced.

Perhaps I didn’t understand what you wanted to do and unfortunately, methinks I still don’t understand… hehehe.

If you do as I showed, the list will stay open for as long as you want/require. To close it, simply click the “X”, which Dave’s screenshot shows. But, if again this is not what you are asking could you perhaps state it another way so at least this old dog could better understand and then if I have a solution I or others can share it.

He is using the drop down Favorites from the Menu. As far as I can remember it has always acted this way, closed after sorting, but I do NOT have a older version of IE to check it out.

the OP did mention IE8 and IE7 as browsers that he evidently is having the problem with. IF he is using the “Favorites” menu from the old Classic Menubar, then the easy solution it seems is to simply use the Favorites menu which we both indicated in our screenshots. I may be even more confused at this point too and if so, everyone please disregard the above.

Thank you DaveA. Yes I am simply opening the Favorites menu which in IE6 stayed open on screen after performing a sort. On the current Vista HP 64 bit I have used both IE7 and IE8. I do not want to use the new feature to have the favorites always open on the left side of the screen although I could activate that, perform the sorting and then when done with my maintenance, then close but I choose to not do that.

Basically I was asking if anyone knew if this feature is dead and I got suggestions to use a different feature. While those answers point in the direction of IE6’s behavior no longer being available, it misses the question. It is like responses to Adobe Reader questions that simply suggest uninstalling Reader and use a different product or responses to Outlook questions which suggest using Thunderbird.

That is a bit strong – they weren’t suggesting that you should use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer or something like that.
They were sincerely trying to be helpful, but apparently they had misunderstood which Favorites feature you were using.

I’m afraid that the Favorites menu closes when you sort it, and also when you delete an entry. I don’t think this behavior can be changed…
