I was catching up on new posts and I see kaplinb’s post 753,190 regards the topic: Disable Automatic Delivery of IE8. Is there any reason why I should not allow IE 8 to install?

Those tools are mainly intended for large companies and organizations where all Microsoft updates are normally pushed to users automatically, without the possibility to choose which updates to install. The tools give IT departments a chance to decide when to allow IE8 to be installed.

On your own PC, I’d recommend that you let Microsoft Update notify you when updates are available. You can then decide for your self which updates you want to install and when.

Thanks Hans. I do have my PC set to download and then ask to install – if I want the updates. I can pick and choose that way. I was only curious whether there was a reason not to allow IE 8 to install when the time came.

Currently it’s still in beta, and from what I gather there are still lots of bugs to be squashed. I don’t know when Microsoft is planning to release the final version. When it does, keep an eye out for reports from people who installed it.

Often, in a corporate setting there are applications which need to be validated. Significant update like IE8 and service packs go through extended and thorough testing before being approved for general installation in those environments. So Microsoft supplies a tool to allow the IT administrators to block the distribution for a period of time.

This would make sense. The last thing a large company would want is the headache of down computers due to glitches caused by updates.
              Thanks smile
