About a week ago, any time I tried to click on a hyperlink (IE 11, Win 7) I got a popup that asked for the program I wanted to use to visit the link!!!! Nothing had changed on my PC, except for the last round of MS updates. This had never happened in the past with any of the IE versions I’ve used. I had not in recent memory change any IE settings or options. There were two options on this pop-up dialog box offering to Ignore or a button to select the appropriate program. Of course Ignore just exited the dialog box, but the link was still inactive. Otherwise another dialog box would allow me to select from lots of programs to activate the hyperlink. Obviously I selected IE. In that selection popup there was a check box to “use this program in the future” or some such phrasing. It was checked by default. The hyperlink then worked and the appropriate website came up. The next time(s) I tried to click any other link, the same thing happened despite having checked always use IE. I could close IE and re-enter and the same thing happened. I could re-boot or shutdown and the problem persisted. Today I have not experienced the problem (at least yet). I was in the process of moving and was without internet access between June and mid-July I was off the net. I did have updates on July 21 and 28. Without further info, I couldn’t associate any of these MS updates with the problem I’ve had. Anybody have any suggestions on this problem. Now it may not happen again, but who knows what may happen again and again.
