Downloaded and installed IE 10 for Windows 7. Big mistake. All I could get it to do was give me “Cannot display this page messages” for any site I tried to go to. Odd thing was my PC is hard wired and connection was there.

Go to the CP, Programs and Features, View Installed Updates. Find IE 10 and uninstall. Your previous version of IE will be reinstalled.

This is the first I’ve heard of this problem.

Did the uninstall and tried install again. Same problem.

Have you checked the connection settings?

What was the specific HTTP error?

Not sure I know which connection settings and specific HTTP error you are referring to. Please explain.

When IE said “can’t display this page” there should’ve been something to show more information about the error.

Click on the little gear in the upper right then select “Internet Options’, then the Connections tab. That is the connection information I mean.

The following is all that appears on the page in question. Nothing appears in the Connection tab

        “This page can’t be displayed.

[*]Make sure the web address http://go.microsoft.com is correct.
[*]Look for the page with your search engine.
[*]Refresh the page in a few minutes

To enable more detailed HTTP error messages go to Settings (gear) | Internet Options | Advanced. Uncheck “show friendly HTTP error messages”.

On the Connections tab “press” the “LAN settings” button.

Unchecked show friendly, etc and pressed LAN settings in Connection. Nothing there. No help..same problem.

You mean after you unchecked “Show friendly…” you did not get any more information about the HTTP error?

I think it’s time to give up and wait for a working version. I’ve wasted too much time already.

      Correct. Nothing.

This will happen if you failed to reboot after installing IE10. With IE updates, several core Windows components are affected.

Yes I rebooted everytime. It must be something in my desktop. Laptop took it with no problem.

Ok, I decided to try out IE10 on my W7 machine, and quite frankly on the surface I don’t see any notable differences between IE9 and IE10. I guess I was expecting something more along the lines of what it shows in W8 and on my phone. Oh well, one notable difference I found was that at least the spell check works again now on this site….. LOL

I have exactly the same problem installing IE10 with Windows 7. I have installed IE10 and did a system restore when I could not connect to any locations. I did another install and the same thing happened. I rebooted both times with the same results.

The message displayed is “This page can’t be displayed”. 1)Make sure the web address http://www.msn.com is correct. 2) Look for the page with your search engine 3) Refresh the page in a few minutes. No matter what address I enter the same message appears.

To fix the problem with installing IE10 on Windows 7 where IE10 displays “This page can’t be displayed”. Go to the Advanced tab under Security and enable “Enhanced Protection Mode”. Reopen IE10 and everything should be fine.

THANK YOU! This worked. I was very frustrated but got it working thanks to you.

I had a connection problem with IE10 after installing, although internet connection was there. The problem was IE10 had switched to a proxy server. The solutiion was click the gearwheel top right of IE10 then Internet Options then Connections tab then untick the box for proxy server then tick the box for Automatic connection at the top. It worked ok then.

The spell checker is one change. I think IE 10 renders a more secure version of HTML??? Basically if it works and does what you want it to do, then not noticing the changes is probably good.

Unfortunately many of my add-ons are not compatible with Enhanced Protection Mode. Last Pass and Logitech Setpoint both were automatically disabled with this settings.
