I recently purchased a combination of IDrive online backup and a IDrive external drive. The online part seems to be working, although, all I have is just a screen that says how many files are backed up, no way to see which ones are missed. The external drive is wireless or wired. I have tried it both way and nothing. The service phone number is always busy. I got an email telling me that the backup was working, which I guess is the online one. I replied and just got a repeat email same thing. Has anyone used an IDrive, and if so, how successful have you been? If I can’t get this going soon, I will return it.
    Thanks for any ideas.

Oldgeezer, you are smart to be concerned about possible files which were missed by the backup.

How long did the initial online backup take? If successful, it probably would have taken several hours. If it finished quickly, say in less than an hour, it’s probably not a good backup.

Since they aren’t responding, and since you can’t ever get them on the phone, I would suggest cancelling the service and returning the external hard drive, and then going with someone else.

mrjim, I think you are probably right, that is about where I am now. I will try again on Monday to get them on the phone. Actually my biggest concern right now is, where are my files and can I get them deleted off their server, where ever that my be. They send me and email report that says how many files were backed up today, but not informative at all. I need to get in touch with the guy who recommended this.

Here are the instructions for how to delete your backup set from the idrive website: (https://www.idrive.com/online-backup-classic-faq#b2)

How do I delete data from my Backup set?

You can delete data from the Backup set in the following ways:

Right-click the file/folder/drive under the ‘Contents of my Backup Set’ list and choose the ‘Delete all items’ or ‘Delete selected item(s)’ from the menu.

Select the file/folder/drive under the ‘Contents of my Backup Set’ list and press the ‘Delete’ key on your computer keyboard.

If you don’t have a good backup set, then hopefully there’s nothing to delete.

It sounds like you are a bit uncomfortable backing up your data to an online “cloud” service. Have you considered doing your backups to an external hard drive rather than to an online cloud service? You can get some software like Memeo, and it will do an initial backup, and then it will continually backup any changes which are made to the data on your hard drive.

When your external drive is just about full, you can put it aside and get a new one. In this way, you can keep all of your old data.

I haven’t used Memeo in a few years, but back then, I was very impressed with it.
