Within the past month the icon for Mozilla Thunderbird on my task bar changed to a blank sheet of paper. I’ve unpinned the icon and restored by rightclicking on Thunderbird in Start and taking option to pin to Task bar. No joy.  The functionality is fine.  Not an earth shaking issue but if it’s easy to fix, I’d like to fix it.

    Thanks in advance

Copy the icon to your desktop.
Right click on the icon. Choose Properties.
In the Target box, type (including quotes):
      “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Thunderbird\thunderbird.exe”
      Apply.

If this gives you the correct icon, right click and pin to the taskbar.

Don’t know if you would call this easy, but you can copy the icon file for the icon in the Start menu Thunderbird shortcut and paste that icon file as the icon for the Thunderbird icon on the Task bar; thus making the icons match.

      Here’s how:
The Thunderbird shortcut in the Start menu will be in one of two different places as follows:
      C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
      or
      C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
Username = user account name (Explorer View must be set for Hidden files to display the AppData folder)
Right click the Thunderbird shortcut and select Properties. In the Properties window click the Change icon button to open that window. The Change icon window will open with the Path address of the current icon highlighted. Press Ctrl + C to copy that Path address to that icon file. Close the Change icon window and Properties windows without changing anything.
Thunderbird must be closed for the next step. Press and hold the Shift key while right clicking the Thunderbird icon in the Task bar. Select Properties from the context menu. In the Properties window click the Change Icon button which will open the Change icon window with the Path address of the current icon highlighted. Press Ctrl + V to paste the Path address of the Start Menu Thunderbird icon file. Click OK for the Change icon window and OK for the Properties window.
The Task Bar icon will be the same as the one in the Start menu.

          Your welcome.
Icons are more than just looks. Being able to identify a shortcut by it’s distinct icon speed ups our usage by not having to hunt for the icon we want. I created my own unique and informative icons to enhance finding them. For Example: I use Outlook but the icon in my Task bar is a rural mail box. My go to photo editing app icon is a camera. The folder icon for the photos of that family member is a face photo of that family member. Windows has a large selection of icons if you don’t want to make your own (although it is real easy to make your own icons). To view this large selection of icons, enter the following Path address in the Change icon Path box and press the Enter key to see them (you will need to scroll to see all of them) in the box below the Path address.

          %SystemRoot%\System32\SHELL32.dll
