It’s known to me that the current Windows Download site has published the Win 11 23H2 (the 22H2 is now, not available). So I may do an upgrade on my Windows 10 laptop and take an image for future reference.

Surely MS will allow a 22H2 upgrade, even though 23H2 is their officially available feature?

And before I begin, for those who have upgraded; during the upgrade process, will I be dealing with prompts and necessities such as those  for the new installs / OOBE  ? (such as internet connection required, MS account entry for user log-on vs local account ((I have a MS account but do not use it for local log-on and only use it for One Drive or Outlook web base)).

Thanks for the replies, I searched for this but my verbage is usually lacking on toicss like this and I saw no good results.

      Yes, Win10 22H2 can be upgraded to Win11 22H2 using the Win11 22H2 ISO.

Some things you need to do first:
      1. Verify your Win10 computer meets the qualifications for for Win11. Check here and here.
      2. Make a full disk image of your computer and a separate file backup of your data.
      3. Be sure you have on hand installation media and license keys (if applicable) for your third-party apps.
      4. Be sure you know your ID and password.

If you want to upgrade, you need to execute setup.exe in the ISO from within the running comp of Win10. Either put the ISO on your desktop and mount it with File Explorer or, if it is on a USB drive, plugin the drive and navigate to the drive (do not boot from the drive). Run setup.exe from within Win10. It will ask you if you want to keep your apps and data or just your data or nothing. Choose apps and data. It will keep your current ID and (maybe most of) your settings. You can choose to connect to the Internet to load updates during the install, or not. (Better to wait till the upgrade is over and check you settings before updating).

        Thanks to y’all.

PKCano: Seems the conventional wisdom is to use a Bootable Thumb drive for the iso, even though I have  a modicum of experience to drill into the mounted iso and run the .exe.

But just curious. re: the bootable method. Is this more risky or prone to other difficulties? I know that folks would probably have to modify the start-up settings in Bios for boot.Seems that I rarely come across the mount, execute .exe.

Th laptop is ready, hardware-wise. A Lenovo purchase w/ Win 10 Pro,  just months  before 11 was available. Will definitely image a full Win 10 disks image.

I haven’t booted a computer from a USB drive in a long time. When I did it was for a Clean Install (wipe drive, remove everything). I don’t know if the current offers an upgrade from the booted installer. I always run the setup.exe in the ISO from within the running OS I’m trying to upgrade.

The recommendations here is to upgrade disconnected from the internet (keeping apps and data). This way you won’t be required to create a Microsoft account, you will be able to change settings..
Then create a full image copy, connect to the Internet and update the Jan/Feb security updates.

Or just stay on W10 for another year and then make the decision – It’s what I’m doing.

I am currently running Windows 10 22H2 on my Dell and went to grab an iso of windows 11 22H2 and realized it was no longer available.  Did get a copy of the Windows 11 23H2 iso but don’t want to upgrade to that version as recommender on Ask Woody.  Any suggestions how I get get a copy of Windows 11 22H2?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have heard of the Rufus app so I downloaded a copy.  Guess I need a little coaching on use of as I opened it up and see nothing where I have a choice of OS versions to download an iso copy.  Will see if I can find examples of use.  Thanks for the response though.

      Run Rufus.
Click on the drop down arrow on the “Select” icon on the right and choose “Download”.
Click “Download” and wait for the script to run – you may need to allow the script.
You will get a new box with available downloads. See the screenshot below.

Thanks for the help!  Unfortunately the only download selection for Windows 11 is 23H2 which I was able to acquire directly from Microsoft.  This was my initial concern was to get the version 22H2 iso.  Appreciate all the help.

Ran the batch file and downloaded an iso file of Windows 10  22H2.  A bit easier.  Thanks also!  Learned a few things…

You can download the aria2 scripts needed to create various different versions of the Windows 11 22H2 ISO from UUP dump.

Simply select particular version you want and follow the on-screen prompt to download the scripts.

Extract them to a folder and run the uup_download_windows.cmd in the folder to create the ISO (note, it will take a while to finish depending on how fast your internet connection is.)

Note: the script downloads all the various parts of that make up a Windows install directly from Microsoft’s official servers and then combines them together to create the ISO.

Thanks!  Did per your instructions and I believe that I have a complete iso file for 22H2.  First time that I have tried something like that but your bullet points were good.
