MESSAGE Task ‘Main – Sending and Receiving’ reported error (0x80004002) : ‘Unknown Error 0x80004002’

My POP and SMTP info is correct.

My landlord (networked with me & on the same ISP) has no similar problems.

    CONTEXT/DESCRIPTION
This morning I realized I had 8 messages in my Outbox. This has never happened before. At first they wouldn’t send, but I noticed if I restarted Outlook, it appeared to send 1 message each session. Now the only remaining message is to myself at the same account. I know I have e-mails waiting to be received (daily newsletters).
    I ran Outlook’s Detect & Repair applet.

    RECENT CHANGE
I am running Office XP. Yesterday I tried to install Access from my old Office Professional 2000 CD. Apparently it installed the whole suite. So I uninstalled 2000, and re-installed XP. Excel and Word work fine.

      Welcome to Woody’s Lounge!

Have you tested your account settings in Tools | E-mail Accounts > View or change existing e-mail accounts > Change > click “Test Account Settings…”? If that fails, you should very carefully review your settings.

If that doesn’t help, I’d uninstall Office XP, then run the Removal Wizard to remove all traces of Office 2000. Finally install Office XP again. Then check your account settings again.

      Welcome to the Lounge!

I’m assuming from your explanation that you can run the test under Tools | Email Accounts | Change | Test Account Settings without any errors being reported. (Oops, after I posted I see Hans has covered that.)

      Try these steps, in order:

      1. Run Detect and repair in Outlook, close and restart Outlook.
      2. If you use Norton anti-virus, turn off the Enable script blocking feature.
      3. Disable New-Mail Notification in Outlook (menu for Outlook XP): Tools | Options | Preferences tab | E-mail Options | clear the “Display a notification message when new mail arrives” check box | OK out. Close and restart Outlook.

Post back if these don’t work.

Hey I started on my way in to the tools/mail setup area, and before I even opened the last menu, suddenly my mail poured in.
But disturbingly enough, a friend of mine told me that she never got my earlier messages. (Which left the Outbox and were
listed in the Sent Items). So I had to resend a few things.

I’m glad it’s fixed, but it’s annoying when stuff fixes itself with no intervention. Cuz who knows what caused it or if it will happen again?

        Thanks Hans, Thanks JohnBF

Sounds like it was a issue at your ISP server more than on your end.
