I have a simple access customer database already created–everything works fine. We are starting to scan customer documents to pdf files and place the pdf’s on a document server. What I would like to do is add a field to the customer database that is a hyper link to the main customer folder for scanned documents [i.e., in the customer folder, there are sub-folders for invoice, purchase orders, contract, correspondance, etc.]. An example path would be: G:Active_CustomersDocumentationSmith_12345-00. Does the link need to include ” ” before and after it?

I just can’t seem to figure out the steps to truly make a data field that accepts a hyperlink or if a hyperlink can be to a folder [i.e., I want windows explorer to open with the customer folder in focus when the link is clicked]. Can a hyperlink in Access point to a folder versus a specific file or website address? The new hyperlink data field will be manually populated over time as we get the customer documents scanned and the folder structure for that customer in place on the customer document server. THANKS.

One of the data types for a field in a table is Hyperlink.
Such a field can be populated by selecting Insert | Hyperlink… or by right-clicking the field and selecting Hyperlink | Insert Hyperlink… from the popup menu (if the field is already filled, the menu item becomes Edit Hyperlink). You can select a file or folder by pointing at it. If you select a folder, following the hyperlink will open that folder in Windows Explorer.
