I’m a lifetime premium member who is losing my mind! Everything I try to do results in the above message or one that says that my organization is controlling my computer… I am one person with one PC and can’t get anything done! I use Windows 10 on a Dell Inspiron with an 80 Gb SSD drive and a 120 Gb standard hard drive plus an external 1 Tb portable drive. I don’t do anything fancy: CCleaner; Snip & Sketch; no games, streaming, etc. I use 4 browsers because sometimes one will work where another won’t (Chrome, Firefox, Avast and DuckDuckGo-Google has too many ads and I don’t like Edge); mostly Office 2019 for Outlook and Word, Quicken, and Carbonite for backup. I like Avast, but I wonder if it’s the cause of my problems. I began getting the above error on almost everything! I’ve communicated with tech support from both companies and whitelisted Carbonite in Avast, but it keeps disappearing from my desktop and won’t reinstall. I can’t get Bomgar to load for a remote help session. It can’t find the temp folder! I’ve followed every piece of advice I can find online including flushing the DNS cache to no avail. I am disabled; physically ill, vision and speech-impaired, so I can’t conduct a phone support call. The last entry about this top in your Forum was in 2014. Any ideas, please?

The best and fastest way to fix a misbehaving Windows PC is to run repair/install

The first thing I see is “HTTP.” HTTP is no longer secure. What is controlling your use of HTTP? Is a setting in Avast causing the problem?

      Hi BTSAZ1989:

What is your Win 10 version and build number [open a Run dialog box (Windows key + R) and enter winver or go to Settings | System | About | Windows Specifications]? If you have Win 10 v22H2 and recently installed your October 2024 Patch Tuesday updates, do you recall if your HTTP 404 Not Found errors started after KB5044273 updated your OS Build to 19045.5011?

Does the problem persist in your Firefox browser after updating to the latest v131.0.3 (rel. today on 14-Oct-2024). From the Firefox v131.0.3 release notes, which state in part:

Fixed a crash that Windows users with Avast or AVG security software were experiencing when visiting certain sites. (Bug 1919678)

I use Microsoft Defender as my primary AV so I don’t know if it’s related, but I’ve been getting frequent HTTP 404 Not Found errors for the past few days when I visit the Dell forum at https://www.dell.com/community/en/categories/dell-community with my Firefox v131.0.2 browser. I haven’t seen that error (so far) since updating to v131.0.3 today.

It seems the firewall blocks access from the internet. Please try to reboot the router and contact the ISP. Also check if the internet is good for other devices such as your smartphone via WiFi.
