I suspect this is a hardware rather than a network problem.
Love my HP2600N color laser. It spits out pages at about 15/min, more than ample for me.
Now I am doing Christmas cards & envelopes, non-standard sizes.

I send two documents – a card and an envelope – to the networked printer.
I feed the card in through the front slot, it prints, but then I experience a delay of about forty seconds until the mechanism grabs the envelope.

Of course, since it’s manual feed and alternate stock (card-envelope, card-envelope, …) I am spending a great many 40-secondses staring out of the window at the equally dismal scene outside. doze

Does anyone know of a quick solution to this problem? 80 seconds times 300 pairs is – too much time to waste.

I have not tried doing a bulk mail-merge and two print streams from the tray, because I’ve tried that before and always seem to put the wrong card in an envelope.

I should add that if I’m manually-feeding regular paper, as in a double-sided print job, the turnaround is good; I do not experience anything like a 40-second delay.

Oh yes, during the 40-seconds, the motors are turning; that is, I can hear the sound of the mechanism that drives the rollers, or whatever they are.

I’d agree with you that it would be hardware related. Have you thought about printing labels instead of directly on the envelopes?

Thanks. I Googled and didn’t find anything relevant

I hadn’t considered it, because I don’t like the look of labeled envelopes. Everyone knows it’s a mass-mailing, but I try to keep the appearance as individual as possible, hence a customized personalized message printed on the card, addresses printed directly on the envelopes, and often enough a significant item of news circled, by hand, in ball-point pen.

Labels would work for the envelopes, but not for the Christmas cards or, for that matter, any other card stock I use (I have my own promotional stuff on 19cm x 23cm card stock, pre-printed one side.)

I’m feeling just a little bit silly.
Started feeding regular envelopes in this morning, one every 45 seconds.
Then I thought to look at the tray.
it has two sliders for width and one for length.
Waddyaknow! The HP2600N allows me to load envelopes in the tray.
      15 envelopes per minute.

My only excuse is that I have a closed mind; my old HPLJ4L would not allow me to load envelopes into the tray.

The tray serves another purpose, if only I’d been awake.
Ran out of envelopes, bought some more, raced back, adjusted the sliders to fit the new stock in the tray; printed some more envelopes.

Found that the text was left-shifted, off the left-hand end of the envelopes.
        Obviously.
If I need to adjust the sliders, it is because the envelopes are a different size, and I’m probably going to lose text, unless I re-size (File, page setUp) my Word document.

        I need a holiday.
