I have been living with this issue for a couple of months and wish to now resolve issue with your help.

    Issue:
HP OfficeJet 4630 wireless printer no longer prints with my Dell D531 Desktop computer via WLAN, however works
with all other WLAN connected devices, e.g., cellphones, netbook, laptop, and tablets. The print spooler

What I have done to fix issue without success:
    1) Uninstalled/re-installed wifi printer several times on Desktop;
    2) Reconnected HP printer to WLAN couple of times;
    3) Properties for both desktop and printer show the same internet address;
    4) Tried using MS Fixit printer trouble/diagnostic tools with no success (doesn’t find issue); and
    5) Read through this and other forums with no help so far.

    System:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
    RAM 4Gb
    BIOS Version/Date Dell Inc. 1.0.13, 2/9/2009 (Latest)
    Graphics Name NVIDIA GeForce 210

    Any reasonable advice is appreciated.

Have you tried updating/reinstalling the wireless drivers in the Dell desktop for its wireless adapter ?

    • #1581900

There are two ways to set up a wireless network printer:
      1) The printer and all other devices connected to the router (either wired or wirelessly), and the router manages the connectivity between all devices.
      2) Devices connect directly to the printer without having to go through the router.

I can’t tell for sure from reading your post how you are trying to print to the printer, but the way I always set things up is to connect the printer via the router, and then find it from each device via the router. I almost always have success that way; the only time I have not had success is with my Canon Selphy printer. I can connect only one device at a time to it. If I connect my desktop to it (via the router), then my laptop can’t find it. If I connect my laptop to it, then my desktop can’t find it.

      3) Properties for both desktop and printer show the same internet address

If both your desktop and the printer have the same IP address then doesn’t your desktop display an error on the network icon in the Notification Area or desktop?

      … or have I misunderstood?

    • #1581937

Rick, I think he means both the printer maintenance panel and the desktop printer properties show the same IP address for the printer.

Does it print if you switch the printer on before you switch the desktop on ?

    • #1581974

HP has a utility called Print & Scan Doctor that you could download from their website. Give it a try.

    • #1582179

Thanks to all for trying but I have tried all suggestions.

I have done some additional checking and when I try to print
      1) Printer Icon pops up and says “0 document(s) – pending for Bob desktop”
      2) other pop-ups show pages being sent to printer
      3) what might block print pages to actually be sent or
      4) what might cause the printer to not receive the print pages

      Also:
Didn’t understand “Sudo15 – Does it print if you switch the printer on before you switch the desktop on ? “

    • #1582186

What I meant was, have you tried switching the printer on before you switch the desktop machine on to see it will print then.

Have you checked in Services to see if the Print Spooler is set to Automatic and is Started/Running.

If you have something stuck in the print queue, that can stop printing any other docs but that doesn’t seem to tally with the error messages you are getting although that could be worth checking.

If a machine detects printer problems then there’s usually something recorded in Event Viewer to view.

        Yes, I have

Not sure how to check print spooler, but don’t think that is problem.

You may have something with Event Viewer, I checked local event logs and have been getting lots of 372 errors so I have placed log images in a doc file attached if you so choose to review the General info and details info.

The thing that leaps out at me is the number of EventID 372’s showing (in Param11) “Access is denied.”.

    • #1582287

Thanks Weedhopper, but six other devices my family use print to the same printer without issues so as I see it the issue can’t be the printer and must be something wrong with my Dell desktop.

Did you set your printer up properly for sharing over the home network. If you dont the printer wont see your device. Ive had that happen before. I had to go into my homegroup and set my sharing properties.

    • #1582292

      @ bob3677

Have looked at your Word doc; “Event ID 372” appears to be to do with Windows’ “Print Spooler”.

I have attended two-or-three customers who were unable to print to their network printers w/ very similar symptoms as you describe. In those cases the fix was to clear the “Print Spooler” cache; i.e.: delete the contents of the “C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS” folder.

You will probably need to go to “Control PanelFolder Options” and on the “View” tab click the “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” option. Then in Explorer go to “C:WindowsSystem32spoolPRINTERS” and delete all contents.

      • #1582747

grab a printer cable and install printer as a wired printer. if successful, disconnect printer cable and using the add printers and devices from control panel you should see your printer as a selection choice, and just follow the installer to a happy ending. good luck

Before I answer two replies below I offer that I used HP Print and Scan diagnostic tool suggested by JJDetroit and the tool suggested there is an HP Printer software issue; suggesting I delete printer, download latest software package, install it and try again. Did all asked and same issue. The HP tool was able to print an “internal” test page but nothing else and none of my desktop applications will print either.

      1) Coohin: The Spool/Printers folder is empty

      2) Sudo15: I will try to insert the event log info below:

      General:
The document Test Page, owned by Bob Desktop, failed to print on printer WiFi – HP Officejet 4630 series. Try to print the document again, or restart the print spooler.

Does it print when USB connected to the desktop or wirelessly when you stop the Print Spooler Service then reboot the computer.

Can you also right click on the printer icon in Devices and Printers and select Troubleshoot.

      • #1582566

        Sudo15:
        1) Tried stopping Print Spooler, reboot and no success.
        2) Tried troubleshooter and it fixed a Homegroup issue with updated HP printer software but didn’t resolve my original not-printing from desktop ONLY.

I don’t have Office Word but when I factory reset this machine prior to upgrading, I omitted to install Word Viewer.

I’ve now installed that and it now opens okay for me to read.

Also in the printer Properties, under the Security tab does Everyone have Print permissions ?

Thanks Weedhopper for the info below but I have tried all you and others suggested without success; two days ago I asked for help from HP Forum and no views of my post yet.
I have also tried event ID 372 help https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd393167(v=ws.10).aspx without success yet.

OfficeJet 4630 won’t print on network

My printer no longer prints on a network connection, only a USB connection. For example, when I attempt to printer in MS Word, the printer menu show “Unable able to connect”, although I am perfectly connected to my printer. I’ve only had this printer for about two months, and it’s been this way for at least a month. I have run the “HP Print and Scan Doctor”, and it tells me that there is a driver conflict, but every time I reinstall the driver and all the software, it repeats the same error message. I’ve also run the “Troubleshoot HP Installation Failure – Network” program, but to no avail. My PC is connected to my router via a ethernet cable, and my printer is connected to my router via a wireless connection, note that I have never had this problem until recently. All the reports I have printed state that there is no problem with the connection or the printer, the signal is excellent. I’ve restarted my router, I’ve reinstalled everything, I’ve restored factory defaults on my printer.

      Hello Adam_C,

Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your concerns with your Officejet 4630. I noticed you have performed some necessary troubleshooting steps, and you tried hooking up a USB cord to test out the connection.

What is your operating system on your computer? Click here to find out: Windows.

      Please follow these steps:

First, follow this entire HP document on ‘Unable to find printer’ Error Message Displays on the Computer During a Wireless Network Installation. This does include uninstalling/reinstalling the software.

If you get the same error after following every step from this document, then please let me know.

Also, I would like you to add a port on your computer for a wireless network:
      1) Go into Devices and Printers on your computer
      2) Right click on your printer
      3) Select printer properties
      4) Select ports tab at the very top
      5) Click on add a port, select Standard TCP/IP port, then select new port
      6) Type in your IP address from your printer, click next, then finish
      7) Click apply, then OK
      8) Try to print a document

With most HP printers, you can set the IP address; then, when you install the printer software on each computer, you can input that IP address when you are searching for the printer. If you go into the control panel (on the front of the printer) and search through the menu options, you should be able to find where to set the IP address. I looked through the user guide for your printer, but I couldn’t find an explanation of how to do that on your printer.

However, you should be able to find the IP address that the printer is using by printing a configuration page for the printer:

        1. Press the Wireless button to access the Wireless Status menu.
        2. Select Settings.
        3. Select Print Report / Configuration Page.

If you set the printer to another IP address, that IP address will need to be compatible with the IP addresses your router is using. It is very likely that a good IP address will be in the format 192.168.0.x (x will be a number between 2 and 254). To know for sure what a good IP address would be, click Start, then in the search window, type CMD (hit enter). Then, in the command window type “ipconfig /all” (hit enter) (don’t type the quotes). You will see some IP addresses which are either 192.168.0.x or 192.168.1.x. The third number in the set needs to match what is already being used in your computer — it will be either a zero or a one. I have put an “x” as the fourth number — I would pick a number between 100 and 199 for that number, because your router will never assign a number that high; in other words, a high number like that will be available for your printer to use.

So therefore, you will probably be safe by picking 192.168.0.100 as your printer’s IP address.

Once you have set your printer to that IP address (or seen the IP address the printer already has), you can then install the printer software on your computer. Tell the software that it is a network printer, and enter the printer’s IP address.

I am very hopeful that this will work for you. Using the IP address is something I have done a lot in order to make sure I could find the printer.

I used to set my printer with a static IP address outside of the DHCP range in the router, but it can also be within the DHCP range as a reserved IP address, but that was more for ensuring the printer was connecting to the router wirelessly.

It would seem to be already doing that as other machines can print to it – the problem seems to be in the Dell not seeing the printer.

Has printing been checked with the Dell’s AV program disabled as it could be a firewall problem which could account for the Access Denied.

      • #1583402

The printer IP address is/has been 192.168.1.106, and from the Dell Desktop with print issue, I can Ping the printer at that IP address with no issue.
        So any other suggestions?

    • #1583415

I believe the printer and the computer still have to do a handshake so there will be incoming as well as outgoing – I’d still give it a try with the AV program disabled.

      • #1583611

Sudo15: Ok, i tried printing with antivirus turned off and no success.

I have been communicating with an HP support rep, but no success with his suggestions as of yet.
He had me build another printer using a manual method and still working with him.
Naturally, if he resolves my issue I will provide resolution at this forum.

        Thanks again to all.

    • #1583614

Well something is causing the Access Denied and the AV program is the first thing to eliminate – which you now have.

Does the tech know about the Access Denied ?

    • #1583624

It still sounds like a ‘permissions’ issue with the print spooler, hence the ‘Access Denied’ errors. This is easy to check.

      1. Navigate to the C:WindowsSystem32spool folder.
      2. Right-click on the PRINTERS folder and choose Properties.
      3. Select the Security tab.
      4. Check your has Full Control.

      For example, for USER:

      45958-printer-permissions

You could always add the Everyone group and give ‘Read & execute’, ‘List folder contents’, ‘Read’ and ‘Write’ permissions (or just Full Control), even if temporarily. This would at least remove the OS as the cause of the ‘Access Denied’ errors.

Note that you will need to be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to add/amend groups/permissions.

      Hope this helps…

      • #1583645

Well my printer not printing from my desktop is resolved.

Thanks to all for helping and as I stated previously I will provide the resolution provided by, Dvortex, of HP Support via the HP Forum.

        A simple rundown:
        1) performed some tests;
        2) manually built a another printer with new IP address; and
        3) gave full access to all printer users by editing “Devices and Printers /Printer Properties/ Security Tab / Edit [Advance/Edit]”

I have attached a MS doc file that provides Dvortex’s steps to resolve my issue. If anyone can’t open the doc file I will provide the file details
        in another update.

        Hope this will help others

Rick Corbett and Sudo15: I remember this suggestion and I had checked the permissions and all seemed proper to me.

What the HP support rep provided details to build a separate printer Icon and explained in detail how to edit full printer access for ALL users whereas I gust checked access for me ONLY under security options.

Maybe I didn’t fully understand, as a novice, Sudo15’s suggestion.

Have you compared the printer port on the laptop to the desktop ?

Also in the printer Properties, under the Security tab does Everyone have Print permissions ?

          +1 🙂

      • #1583771

That is correct, HP rep didn’t specifically explain reason for issue but explained enough so If the issue ever comes back for me or others; I and maybe others will know what to concentrate on – Security Options

I still do not know if I really needed to build the new printer or could I have edited the Printer Security Options and fixed my issue for the original desktop printer.

I’m glad you responded so I could provide additional Thanks to both or you.

        Sudo15: #37

    • #1583790

Perhaps it was remiss of me not to have added a Google link as a walk through in how to add Everyone to the Permissions list – but at least you’re there now. 🙂
