I installed Win 7without any major problems except for the inability to find a driver for my Color Laser Jet 1600. HP has announced that they will not start work on Win 7 drivers until worldwide deployment of Win 7.

I thought I would be able to install a Vista driver but it did not install. Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

If I can not find an answer to this problem I may have to roll back to XP.

    Thank you.

Go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Devices and Printers and see if your connected printer is there. Then right-click on it and pick Troubleshoot (assuming that you have tried the more obvious choices first), and Microsoft will get back to you with an answer (providing a link to HP), and with luck HP will tell you whether or not there is a driver available, or as I just discovered in a case of my own (LaserJet 1020 with 64-bit Win 7), when it will be available (mid-November in my case). Better late than never, I suppose, but they have had aeons (as computers go) in which to prepare for this.

You are not alone in grousing over HP.

        Thanks for your reply.

The Vista driver does not install so when I go to Control Panel the printer does not show.

I am heartened by your printer driver being ready in the next few weeks.

I can see no reason for the delay. This probably developed from a pssing contest between Microsoft and HP. Maybe MS didn’t release code to HP by a date that HP wanted.

        Thanks again.

I have a similar problem. When I searched HP’s site for the driver, it told me the work-around was to uninstall the driver and use the default Windows 7 driver to do basic printing and scanning until the full version HP driver kit would be available in January 2010. It worked, but I had to hook the printer back up to a USB connection to get it to work as it was a wireless printer. (pain, but at least HP gave me the work-around)

Checked HP site today and found the driver I needed.

Hope that others needing HP drivers will get theirs soon.

The HP web site said that I needed to use USB to connect my Officejet Pro L7780, but I just used Add Printer and searched the network and it seems to work perfectly.
