HP laptop won’t install updates to Win10 Home 21H1 anymore

My old faithful HP Pavilion g6 with an Intel Core i5 2450M, 2.5 GHz and 4 GB RAM just won’t install any more updates. Everything worked just fine until mid-March. It has tried installing KB5011487 several times but always fails with code 0x8007000d. It says something about problems with one or more files, and will try again. I have run the troubleshooter for Win Update several times, and it says it has fixed some problems. After restart and retried search for updates, I get the same error. Have also tried installing KB5010342 with the same result, same error code.

Grateful for any tips or tricks!

I would either do an inplace repair over the top if you have an ISO of 21H1 – or if you don’t – go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 click on update now, on the exe file that downloads, click to run it and follow the prompts.  The action of installing a feature update over the top usually cleans up the system and gets it going again.

Susan, thanks a million! It took most of the day, but now I’m on 21H2, have downloaded the latest updates and everything works like a charm!

You are advised to upgrade the RAM for at least 8GB. 16GB would be much better.

Obviously,  more RAM will make any computer run better/faster. That was not my problem in this case. /Göran
