I have an HP laptop that I upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10.

I was reading a Thread on here about the HP Fingerprint reader (where Rick Corbett mentioned DriveGuard)which caused me to check my list of installed programs.

It is apparent that Driveguard and Coolsense didn’t make it from the 8.1 to 10 upgrade and are no longer installed.

I checked various HP Forum posts, but am none the wiser as to whether these apps will work on Win 10, and whether they are needed.

if anyone has any information or advice on this issue, I’d be very grateful.

Coolsense functions on my upgrade from W7 to W10 but I have set it to Off. Can’t see much sense in using it, though it is supposed to keep the laptop cooler in moving situations e.g. on lap.

      Hi Trev,

I’ve never used Coolsense but, IMO, HP 3D Driveguard is important if you have a ‘spinning platter’ hard disk. I downloaded HP’s sp71714 SoftPaq, which installs as HP 3D Driveguard v5.2.2.1. As you can see, it works in Win 10.

Have a look here to see if your laptop appears in the list of laptops that sp71714 supports.

      Hope this helps…

Thanks, Rick, that was all the impetus I needed…have now installed DriveGuard with no issues thus far.

My Laptop wasn’t on your list, but on HP Support I found sp71811 which installed version 6.0.28.1.

p.s. Talk about a lean machine, your screenshot shows only 7 programs installed!

Unfortunately this later version of DriveGuard isn’t (yet) available for my ‘business class’ HP laptop. I suspect this may be due to the push by MS to deal with the ‘lower hanging fruit’, i.e. upgrade ‘consumer class’ devices first. I’ll keep checking back on the HP site for updates

PS – It’s only lean for the moment. 🙂

      @Rick

My ProBook 450 isn’t on the list either and DriveGuard shows up just as yours does in Programs and Features so it’s there but greyed out like yours.

Don't take yourself so seriously, no one else does 🙂

For info, looking at various HP 3D Driveguard SoftPaqs on the HP Support site, it’s obvious that versioning has gone adrift.

      For example:
      SoftPaq sp70932 installs as HP 3D Driveguard 6.0.28.1, dated 29 July 2015

SoftPaq sp71714 installs as HP 3D Driveguard 5.2.2.1, dated 2 July 2015 (I have this one installed.)

      SoftPaq sp66055 installs as HP 3D Driveguard 6.0.19.1, dated 11 Apr 2014

      SoftPaq sp63786 installs as HP 3D Driveguard 6.0.15.1, dated 12 Oct 2013

Going by increments in the SoftPaq number, it looks like I have installed the latest. However, going by the version number, I appear to be one major version behind. As sp71714 is the only one specifically listed for my HP ProBook 6475b I’m going to stick with it.

      Hope this helps…
