I think this is a tough challenge.
My home network is based in XP OS.
    I got a new desktop W7 64bits.
The printer was also found by my machine.

    The question is:
How to install a HP DeskJet 3550 on a W7 64bits that is currently installed in a XP network?

If the printer is connected to the XP machine and shared, you need to add the HP 64 bit drivers to the XP machine, then it will provide the drivers to the W7 machine.

Looking on the HP web site it seems that Windows 7 64 bit should have built in drivers for this printer, that provide limited functionality. HP do not provide a separate downloadable driver at the moment.

Your best approach might be to connect the printer to the Windows 7 computer with a USB cable, let Windows configure the drivers, then move move the printer back to the Windows XP computer and try connecting it as a remote printer from Windows 7.

Where do I find this driver Paul? I think HP didn’t released it yet.
Another point is that the W7 machine asks for a driver in itself, not others machines.
        Merry Chritmas!

If there was a downloadable Windows 7 64-bit driver then you could install this driver on your 32 bit Windows XP computer and it would be able to provide it to Windows 7 64-bit computers when they map the printer.

Since there is no such driver yet, you need to do something different. See my post above for one suggestion that you could try.

      Hi

I had the exact same issue with a number of printers – for the Canon printers I had to download the W7 64 bit drivers onto the W7 machine and they then loaded the 600 and 610 printers.

However for the HP3550 I simply found the printer on the W7 “find a printer program” and it loaded drivers by itself and have no idea where they came from!

      Regards

      and

      Merry Xmas.
