My Windows 10 Device manager shows an “unknown device” that, as close as I can see, is actually the HP 3D DriveGuard for the Pavilion dv7 laptop. I can find no Windows 10 drivers.

Is this necessary or important? Should I disable it?

I upgraded my HP laptop to win 10 and the HP support Assistant keeps trying to install a new driver for HP 3D DriveGuard but with no success. The HP 3D DriveGuard feature is to park your HDD in case of dropping the computer so that it does no damage to the HDD. Hopefully you won’t push your computer off the desk and all will be well. 😀

      Hey Y’all,

According to my googling some have had success with this HP Software Update ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp64001-64500/sp64144.exe

Others say that an updated driver eventually downloaded via Windows Update for W10. HTH

I’ll have to do some further checking but it looks like HP DriveGuard 6 may have installed on 9/3/15 on my laptop. SP71839, version 6.0.28.1AP1. That’s what shows in my HP Support Assistant “Action Log”.
There were 2 earlier attempts that failed.
I’m not sure what it’s called in Dev. Mgr. to check it there. Since OP is on a Desktop, I doubt that there is too much to worry about and HP will catch up to it eventually.
