    Hello guys,

My OS is Win8.1 PRO (64bits)

Yes I know it is a silly question, but what is the syntax for removing the read-only attribute of an Excel file, say abcd.xlsx file?
Suppose the address for the example is, c:documentsspreadsheetsabcd.xlsx. 😮

Any help will be much appreciated.

    Regards,
    Flores

      Flores,

If it is a standard Excel file just navigate to it in File Explorer.
      Right-Click it and select Properties.
Uncheck the Read-only check box at the bottom.
      Click OK.

On the other hand if it is a file that was downloaded from the internet you need to unblock it.See this post for options.

      HTH

        Hi Retired Geek,

So it is that simple, wow, and I was meddling with the old DOS command attrib -r as an Administrator, and it did not work.
        Thanks a lot.
