How to remove the picture placeholder in SmartArt graphics?

Hey guys, I’m kinda new to Office 2013 (been using Office 2003 for years) and was hoping someone here could help me out with this annoyance.

How do I go about removing this picture placeholder (indicated by the red arrows) from the SmartArt graphics? It appears that neither right-click nor the Delete key, can get rid of it. I have to give a presentation in 2 weeks and this infernal placeholder is annoying me to no end.
