A friend uses Outlook Express and occasionally gets a forwarded email which is a MSG file. I did a google search and learned that the MSG file is a saved Outlook email. How do you open a MSG file when you are not using Outlook? Or can my friend tell the person sending the email how to send it so that he can open it using Outlook Express? Thanks for your help.

I have Outlook 2007 and Outlook Express 6. When I send me a mail with a .msg attachment with Outlook, I receive it in Outlook Express and I can open the .MSG attachment by double clicking on it.

It does not work for me or my friend. I went into FOLDER OPTIONS and set up the MSG file to open with outlook Express and now when I double click on the attachment, nothing happens at all.

Priasoft MSGView 1.0 claims to be a free .msg viewer (Outlook not needed).

Alternatively, your friend could ask the sender to copy and paste the text of the .msg file into the e-mail itself.
