Microsoft is trying to prevent me from working by constantly suggesting I use its stupid CoPilot.  I have looked through the settings in Web outlook (office 365) and there is no off switch.  I found a suggestion on Reddit to _almost_ cancel the office 365 subscription, after which you get offered “classic” office 365 without CoPilot, but I went down that path and the final button seemed awfully definitive and final, so I did not click it.

    Suggestions?

I will check with Peter but I think the only way is to go to Microsoft 365 classic

Microsoft is belatedly adding Copilot ‘off’ switches. Word 365 has one now https://office-watch.com/2025/how-to-disable-copilot-in-microsoft-365/ and they a promised for this month in Excel and PowerPoint.

No word on Outlook however.  Microsoft sees a greater use for Copilot in Outlook and so it might be beyond their comprehension that someone doesn’t want the intrusion.

Switching to a Classic plan is the other option. It’s a cheaper plan and does remove Copilot from all M365 apps.

Although it would have been better for Microsoft to provide an off option for Copilot in Outlook (new and web) at the outset, does it actually hinder productivity?

The small grey icon at the start of the email text field can easily be ignored by anyone who doesn’t want to try Copilot’s assistance.
