How to install (or make available) a font to Microsoft Word 2013

Hi Gang,

I’ve had a document created for me that looks great when viewed as a PDF, however when I open it with word it just comes up as all Bold and ugly!

The professional that I used to create the document for me tells me that I would need to have the font “adobe garamond” available to Microsoft Word 2013 ( I use an Office 365 Subscription) for the document to display correctly.

I do own and have installed “Adobe Acrobat X Pro” Version 10.1.16 so I assume I should have the font in question, but don’t know how to make it available to Microsoft Word.

Any ideas folks? I’m fairly computer literate but Step by step instructions would be great if possible.

My computer is a Windows 7 Pro 64bit, 20GB RAM, 256GB Intel SSD Drive with a couple of 3 TB Sata storage drives in there for good measure.

My Win7 Pro has a Garamond Font by Monotype, don’t know if Adobe can use it or not. I have Adobe Acrobat 8 on it and the installed Garamond Font works. Do you have the Adobe version?

Thanks Berton, I did find the Garamond Font by Monotype and it does indeed look identical (well to me anyway) as the one used in the document / contract that I had professionally written for me. I can now make changes without destroying the professional look of the document.

Otherwise, you would need to obtain and install the Adobe Garamond font on your computer. Once installed in your computer’s fonts, it would be available in Word. I recommend trying the Garamond font that comes with Windows, first.

Garamond is the font I use for most of my work.

I see I didn’t respond to that part of your post. ALL installed Fonts in Windows are intended to be available to all Windows-based programs, just have to find in the Menu bar or on a toolbar how to select the desired Font. That was a big change in Windows 95 versus the earlier Windows 3.1 and its predecessors that required a separate Font Manager or programs provided the support.

Windows-based programs can sometimes also use Fonts that are not installed but available on the HDD, even in the Fonts Folder but not actually installed. After a reboot those uninstalled Fonts will not be available. If using such a Font one can opt to install it and best to also add/copy it to the Fonts Folder.
