    Hi folks,

I am wanting to use bracket lines to indicate portions of a UI that I am describing in a user’s guide. I’ve reviewed the shape and line options in PowerPoint 2013 but don’t see adjustable bracket lines of the type shown in my screenshot. This seems like a pretty basic shape to want to use, so I was hoping that there would be some already pre-made in PowerPoint instead of me having to create each one out of multiple lines.

The default bracket shape isn’t what I want to use because I want to use just straight lines.

Can anyone offer any suggestions on the easiest way to achieve this in PowerPoint?

    Thanks.

      Benjo,

I don’t have 2013 but in 2010 you go to Insert -> Shapes – Basic Shapes and there are several that you can place, size, rotate. HTH

Thanks, yes, I saw those. None of the pre-set styles suit what I am looking for (simple solid black lines, no curves or points). I think I’ll just have to created my own brackets out of solid thicker black lines.

Do you have access to Visio?

If so, you could draw the shape in Visio and use copy/paste image to put it in Powerpoint.

Go to the basic shapes, and select left brace, and place in your presentation. The default is curved and upright. Rotate the shape 90 degrees, the grab the little yellow box on the left side and drag it all the way to the left side of the bounding box. The shape will change to be squared off as in your example. If there is no box, just zoom in until you see one.

      Hope this helps,

      Mike
