(If this has already been answered, please just post the link – my search didn’t turn up anything)

Word 2007 & 2010 — I have about 20 Word folders in my “Favorites” location. However, when I try to open a file in Word, the Open dialog window defaults to the “Documents” folder, which means that many of my favorites are out of view beyond the top of the window. I tried changing the location of the default open folder, but Word won’t accept “Favorites” as a default folder (because, well, it isn’t really a folder). So is there a way to increase the size of the Open Dialogue window so that my Favorites are viewable?

Hi Brint, the File Open dialog can be made larger in both Word 2007 and Word 2010 by moving the cursor over the edges of the dialog until the cursor changes to a double-headed arrow which can then be used to drag the dialog’s edges to a larger size. This works for both horizontal and vertical edges of the dialogs as well as the corners of the dialogs.

Thanks, Rick — I see now I wasn’t clear in my question. Is there a way to increase the DEFAULT size of the Open Dialogue Window (so that I don’t have to scroll or manually re-size every time it opens)?

My adjustments to the File Open dialog are ‘sticky’, i.e. they persist.

Have you tried carrying out a ‘Repair’?

      Rick & Brint,

Rick that works great! I didn’t know that they had made this change. You can even adjust the size of the files pane and it sticks.

You might also be interested in a free add-on called FileBox eXtender which extends the use of the File Open dialog. “FileBox can also forcibly resize the standard Windows file management dialog boxes so they’re bigger, and thus easier to use if you’ve got lots of files in a folder through which you need to look.”

      Hope this helps…
