I have to say I’m REALLY surprised – on my wife’s Lenovo Yoga Tab 2 it’s currently downloading already, while it took around 3 months for 1703 to appear in Windows Update.

Pleased to report that our test computers that are unblocked are picking up and installing 1709 without issues as I type. (Two have completed successfully.)

      Our other test computers that were set to a delayed release schedule using native settings (no reg tweaks) are NOT picking up 1709 – which is exactly what we wanted to see. (There was doubt in my mind.)  Note that in spite of Microsofts language change on their blog and documentation, the setting still refers to CBB . . .  {rolls eyes}

(Replying to my own post to make a direct comparison easier.)

On our newly updated machines, the aforementioned deprecated CBB language has been updated on 1709:

Win 10 Pro 1709 Advanced Update Settings

As usual the words are confusing.  I think that if you want future major build versions as soon as they are released, you select the default setting which is Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted).  If you want delayed releases, aka CBB, choose the simpler named option (the one that does NOT say targeted . . . )

          LOL

I imagine we’ll only be able to resolve whether Targeted means “unpaid beta tester” or not when we see the next release.

These games are really growing tiresome.

Don’t be too confident… It doesn’t seem to be being delivered to everyone who has settings to receive it yet either. Note:

Yeah, we are kinda thinking about that too, but that’s why we have a test lab!  I’ll keep you folks here updated.

At our test lab: On new upgrades to 1709 we are seeing the traditional huge post-release patch being offered:

      2017-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 1709 . . . . KB4043961.

Not finding any documentation yet on this.  (Crossing fingers and clicking install.)

I’m still waiting for the Creators Update, verion 1703… No idea why I haven’t received that one yet. Maybe because I’m using Avast 2016 instead of 2017?!

    • #138463

I’m gonna wait until were at Level 3 to download and install the update. 🙂

      • #138509

Probably best to wait until it’s “Business Ready” (or whatever Microsoft calls it these days). Granted, it’s not exactly failsafe, since 1703 got a huge patch just days after M$ declared it to be “business ready”. Go figure, your buggy OS is indeed ready for businesses that expect reliability.

        lol, emojis..

Thanks for the Advice everyone here. W10 can get shafted, I ain’t going to it.

Forced updates all for…that? I’d not use a SINGLE THING in that list.

Except you’ve now got to mess about getting paint through the Microsoft Store.

SOLVED. For some reason, during one of the restarts you need to login using your password but touch does not work. So, if you don’t have an OTG cable + USB hub, you’re s******. If you have them, just plug mouse + keyboard to the tablet, login, reinstall “Intel BYT platform drivers” from the Lenovo site and you’re good.
