    Hi,

I recently downloaded the volume license ISO of Server 2012 R2 Standard SW_DVD9_Windows_Svr_Std_and_DataCtr_2012_R2_64Bit_English_-4_MLF_X19-82891.ISO, which in Microsoft’s infinite wisdom also includes Datacenter.

The problem is, the total size of the ISO is more than the 4.7GB capacity of a standard DVD. I do not have blu-ray or dual layer DVD’s available.

Can anyone help me extract Server Standard from the ISO and just burn that?

    Thanks in advance.

You can mount the ISO in Windows 8 by right clicking and selecting Mount. Dis-mount by ejecting the CD from Windows Explorer.
You can now see what files / folders are there and work out what you can delete.
If you don’t have W8 you can use 7zip to open the ISO.
ISO Master works in both Windows and Linux, but the Windows version costs a small fee. http://www.littlesvr.ca/isomaster/faq/

And don’t forget that many newer Optical drives are Multi-Format, can use the DVD+R/DL Dual-Layer discs of about 8GB [haven’t seen any marked DVD-R/DL]. Only downside is having the drive, usually marked on the face of the tray, mine are marked as such.

Before you wonder "Am I doing things right," ask "Am I doing the right things?"

I’d suggest pursuing the Dual Layer DVD option. The disks are not that difficult to find and most burners should support them, as DL is part of the DVD specification. The DL disks are a bit more expensive but the main thing I noticed is that burning a DL disk is markedly slower than a single layer disk. As in, about half speed.

Failing that, I believe a DVD ISO can be burned to a USB flash drive, no? Get yourself an 8 GB or larger and you should be good to go.

We should have thought of that earlier!!!
