How to Enter Year in a Date Field

I would like to keep track a library of books. For each book, I’m only interested in the publishing year. For the Publish_Year field, it’s set to Date/Time data type. But, how to enter year, say, 2003, instead of 1/1/2003? Or, is it a good idea to set it to integer?

If you’re only interested in the year, I’d use a number field instead of a date/time field.
