Win8 has this feature where when I get the cursor close to an item on the taskbar an small image of that window pops up. I hate those — they are always covering up what I’m trying to look at — and would love to eliminate them. Is there a setting to do that? I haven’t been able to find one.

    Thanks,
    Bill

I finally got back to work on this and after tracing several links I found the step by step instructions for the registry change. Then I found that DisablePreviewDesktop was already there, with a value of 1! Luckly, that web page also said that if it didn’t work, then change the name to DisablePreviewWindow. I made that change and it worked!

      Thanks for the link.

I thought DisablePreviewWindow only affected the preview window in windows explorer. Do you have a link to “that web page”? You no longer have taskbar thumbnails?

Well, when I made the change the thumbnails seemed to have disappeared but after powering down and back up they are now back so this change didn’t actually do any good. I haven’t found the place that suggested that change but I’ll keep looking.
