I need to get rid of the Apostrophe which is the prefix of value of every cell in a datasheet. I tried to use the Find and Replace feature. Unfortunatly, it seems that Excel could not recognize the ‘ I entered as a search value.

It sounds as if you’ve got Transition Formula entry switched on, which puts apostrophes in the cell formulae automatically.

Use menu option Tools/Options and select Tab Transition, and switch off any Transition check boxes.

      Hope that helps.

The the apostrophe to which you refer has a special meaning to excel, and that is to treat the cell entry as text. The following procedure should remove the apostrophe and set all numeric characters to numbers.

Select a blank cell and copy it to the clipboard. Then select the cells with the apostrophe and Paste Special and under the Operation section of the options select Add. That should help.
