Outlook is pointing to a non-existant contact list. Recently I rebuilt my Outlook.pst file from scratch following the instructions in one of Woody’s newsletters. Now when I click on the new message screen’s “To…” button, I get not the expected Select Names screen, but an error message saying “The address list could not be displayed. The Contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened…” (The rest is available upon request.)
Clearing that screen produces a Select Names dialog box listing two items both named “Contacts”. Selecting the first one produces again the error window described above. Selecting the second opens up (finally) the Select Names screen and addressing now proceeds normally.
I have developed a workaround: change the order the “Contacts” lists are accessed. Select Tools, Address Book to get the Address Book dialog box (along with the above error message). Now select Tools, Options to get the Addressing dialog gox. Open up the “Show this address list first:” dropdown and select the Second “Contacts” entry. Now everything seems to work but that pointer to the non-existant “Contacts” list is still there threatening problems (or at least confusion) sometime in the future. How can I delete the bad “Contacts” pointer?
