    From http://windowsitpro.com/windows-10/check-machine-windows-10-compatibility:

“Q. How can I check a machine for compatibility with Windows 10?

    A. It is possible to run the Windows 10 setup in a scan only mode which will return a result related to if an upgrade is possible. Run the command below:

    start /wait /setup.exe /auto upgrade /compat ScanOnly /quiet”

From Windows 10 no longer supported? How to tell if your PC is eligible for latest version:

“But even on a PC running a fully supported processor, you are potentially at risk of being blocked for other issues, including serious incompatibilities associated with specific devices or installed programs.

To check for potential problems before you spend hours attempting to update to the latest Windows 10 release, there’s a simple option: Run the Setup program with a pair of switches that instruct it to perform a compatibility check and return the results.”

Wonderful. After forcing W10 on most of its customers, M$ makes it impossible to use W10 without purchasing new hardware.

There was a mention of Intel making newer chips compatible with only version 10 of Windows. You can still install other OS such a Linux.

not on all ! i just went though it on a 19 month old I3 powered HP laptop , after days of problems trying to do a clean reinstall with win 10, and get it upgraded to 1703, 2 days total, 5 runs of killdisc to be sure i had a clean drive. 6 try’s all very very slow, or stopped mid. mean while i tried to install win 7 pro.( this machine is not compatible with that OS) tried to install linux, another no go.
hp in it’s infinite wisdom has 3 part numbers in their parts lists for mother boards in this model line. taken right from the list.
(((( All system boards use the following part numbers:
        xxxxxx-001: Windows 7 or non-Windows operating systems
xxxxxx-501: Windows 8.1 Standard operating system
xxxxxx-601: Windows 8.1 Professional or Windows 10 operating system))))
each is locked by the uefi/bios to the os and blocks using another. i can not do a clean install of pro using a retail dvd of pro thanks to the hidden.seemingly unchangeable program key in the uefi, it is a 2 step, install home, upgrade to pro. upgrade the releases. 1703 being a major problem, yes maybe it was me, but i doubt it.
I also have a question for others,
using the media tool i have not been able to download 1703 directly, anyone else found that?
