How to change flash drive from CDFS to NTFS?

Hi. I’ve got an old flash drive formatted as CDFS. I’d like to salvage it and re-format it as NTFS. How can I do this? I’d prefer to use native Windows utilities if possible. I’m using Win7. Any ideas?

When I tried to simply format it, absolutely nothing happened (as far as I could tell). Thanks.

Hey, I found that to be a great article. Answered lots of questions I didn’t know I had. I was able to format the majority of the flash drive like I wanted. There’s still a small portion that still shows up as CDFS, but I can just igore that since I’ve got the use of most of the drive. Thanks.

Late getting to the party but would like to add that some of the External USB HDDs have a partition/program on them that shows as a CD drive in Windows Explorer. The format of CDFS is for CD discs.

You can probably use diskpart to clean the drive, then format as anything you’d like
Be careful – selecting the wrong drive to clean will wipe everything out!!!
