How to boot from a flash drive on HP ProBook

 I have a HP ProBook 6570b with W7.
 I recently d/l Macrium Reflect to do backups. Apparently, I can create a Rescue Media. I would like to create one with a flashdrive. When I do that, I would like to just test it.

Is there a way to boot from a flashdrive? If I have to change the boot ORDER, how do I do it? I tried hitting the escape key on boot-up, but I am confused as to where to find the boot order and how to adjust it. Also, if I could avoid doing that and just boot one time to test the flash drive, that would also be great.

As an update, I tried the F9 key when I turned the computer on, which supposedly allows me to boot up from a different source.
But my choices are:
Notebook Upgrade Bay
Notebook Hard Drive
Notebook Ethernet

Those are my only choices.

I can also get into a different menu and select System Configuration and Scroll down to Legacy Boot Order.
But my choices are:
The three listed above and:
USB Floppy
USB CD ROM
USB Hard Drive
SD Card
Dock Upgrade Bay
eSata Drive

Would USB Hard Drive count as a flash drive?
I would prefer not to change the order and just boot once but as I said above, I don’t seem to have that option.
All I want to do is test the Rescue Media flash drive
Ideas?

(I am not sure if this post should be here under W7 or under Hardware or ??)

I would run a test by selecting & enabling “USB hard drive” in BIOS as an active boot drive.

You would also do well to read up on the specifications of your particular make and model.

well, I guess I am asking if a USB HARD DRIVE is the same as a USB flash drive. I can move that up in the boot order.

Yes, I would assume that too. But the only way to know for sure would be to TEST that hypothesis, or go over your
laptop’s on-line documentation.

There is a difference. Found that to be the case when trying to install Win 8 and my laptop suddenly became unable to boot from thumb drive. Never was able to solve the problem.

A flash drive is not the same as a hard drive in USB boot terms, but they look the same in Explorer.
To create a bootable flash drive:
1. Obtain Rufus.
2. Create an ISO image with your backup program.
3. Insert the flash drive and run Rufus.
4. Make the flash drive bootable using the ISO image you created above.
5 Test, test, test.

a.) Note the brand of your thumbdrive
b.) Go into your BIOS, the Boot Order section, and move the “USB Hard Drive” corresponding to your thumb drive to the first position.
c.) Reboot.

There is no USB Hard Drive correspondig to my thumb drive. It just says USB Hard Drive, and I don’t think that means a USB flash drive

Unless you have a USB-connected external HD, I believe it does.

well, i do have a usb external hard drive. neither is connected when i try and change the boot order, as delineated in my original post

I would try unplugging the external HD (for safety, and to avoid any confusion – I doubt anything would happen unless you have an OS on the external HD).

THEN plug in the thumb drive, boot into BIOS, move the “USB Hard Drive ” to the top of the list, hit F10 (save changes & exit) and stand back.
You can leave Notebook Hard Drive as option #2, so if the plan doesn’t work, the computer will still boot normally.
Try it.

The USB stick may not be enabled as a boot device in BIOS. This is often the case in older machines.
