Neither Norton AV 2012 nor Internet Security 2012 have the option to export user settings, as Kaspersky, Eset and others. Having the option to export user settings and then import those setting again makes a fresh install much quicker. Posts on Symantec forum says exporting user settings cannot be done and then refer to suggestions for future improvements.

Does anyone know of a backup program that will export Norton Internet Security settings?

If not, does anyone know of another method, such as copying data, or a particular file, from a folder then copying back on fresh install?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

      ip45ywre,
Hello… I use Norton NIS 2012, and have had a look at where it’s installed …Norton is in many places ..I use Acronis 2010 True Image Home and Macrium reflect Free, also fool with EASEUS Todo Free. In my view it would be easier to just do a complete OS Image than to try to figure out how to reinstall just Norton .. However if you want you can use a pay for program called “Total Uninstall” TU martaualong with the un-install bit there is a function that you can do a “Snapshot” of your OS before you install a program …”TU” then compares the “after snapshot” and can create a backup of the new install (in your case Norton).. you could then re-install just the Norton program (with all your settings) when you wish…”TU” can also scan the already installed program (analyze) and basically do the same …Just not as well… Regards Fred

Good idea, just plain fred. I’ll take a closer look at TU and its cost, thanks!

Backup4all is a program that with plugins does allow software settings to be backed up, but there were no plugins for Norton.

Anyone else how to backup Norton’s settings?

Is there an .ini file that could be copied?

Or, would copying the Norton folder from program directory, reinstall, then copy that folder back?
