AskWoody PlusNovember 11, 2024 at 2:11 pm #2716665Very nice article. Sorry, but where do I go to understand why I need to complicate my life with multiple accounts like this outside of separate accounts for my kids and grandkids. Hopefully there is some benefit, but I can’t manage to see it so far. I use my computers as personal computers in the original sense of the word, not as enterprise IT hubs.

AskWoody PlusNovember 11, 2024 at 8:02 pm #2716775Thanks for the guide, Lance. I can see the potential usefulness of having multiple Microsoft Accounts.
However, I’m hesitant to use the new Outlook as an email aggregator. I’d rather use a standalone desktop program like Thunderbird that authenticates directly with each of my email accounts and downloads the emails directly to my computer.
Outlook apparently authenticates on the user’s behalf but then uploads and stores all those non-Outlook emails, calendars, etc, on Microsoft’s Cloud? This gives MS all my email credentials, the potential to sign in to my email accounts at will and to collect copies of all my emails and calendars – which may be scanned for various reasons like calendar integration.
At the least, it appears to double the attack surface for data breaches or hackers to compromise my email accounts and privacy. All the eggs in one basket? Not for me. Of course, I’ve never been a ‘cloud’ enthusiast.

AskWoody_MVPNovember 12, 2024 at 6:37 am #2716858I agree. As I said in the article, I’m not a fan of the new Outlook app. I think it was a bad move on Microsoft’s part to get rid of the Mail and Calendar apps and replace them with this new one. And how many apps are now named Outlook? Microsoft sometimes seems like a chicken running around with its head cut off.
