Because of problems with Outlook 2007, I completely uninstalled all of Office 2007, including Silverlight and the assorted MS Office-related installations; ran CCleaner and Glary Utilities to sanitize the registry, directory structure, temp directories and Recycle Bin; rebooted several times in the process, then re-installed Office 2007. I fired up Outlook and — before I could get into Tools > Account Settings to tell it where I keep my data files on another drive — Outlook found and opened both the default .PST and the archive .PST that resided in the special directory! How does this happen?

Quite honestly I don’t know; I relied on CCleaner and Glary Utilities to clear out registry keys and I didn’t inspect the many, many keys they showed before issuing the delete command. I guess they must have left it in there.
