    Hi.

Everytime I go on-line, Windows Messenger starts to run. I do not use it so would like to turn it off permanently. I have already gone to Tools > Options > Preferences and unchecked ‘Run this program when Windows starts’ but it still keeps running once I go on-line.

What’s happening? How do I turn it off permanently?

Henry, have a look at this thread on stopping messenger.

All the methods in this IE thread work to kill messenger. I’ve tried them. However, disabling the enable for messenger (an oxymoron?)in the Group Policy Editor while quick and easy interferes with Hotmail if you happen to be using it–otherwise it works fine. Renaming to old is quick and so is Doug Knox’s command in the run box + a regedit.

          defrag
