I have searched the forums but I just can’t seem to figure out how to insert a hyperlink into a forum reply.

I have copied the target hyperlink and then pasted it into the reply but the hyperlink disappears when I post the reply.

    What am doing wrong?

    Thanks.

It should just show up.  Sometimes I right mouse click and “paste as text”.

If the HTML is from a colored link on a page, is it pasting as white text?

I’m going to post a link as a test:

Be sure to paste as plain text and not as HTML. You can make sure of this by clicking the Text tab on the edit bar before pasting into the text entry field. The forum software will automatically make a link of text it recognizes as a URL, as Patch Lady Susan wrote.

Alternately, if you want hyperlinks like this, just follow these steps:

Highlight the text you want to be the link.

Click the link icon on the edit bar (third from right).

Paste the URL into the box that pops up.

Hit Enter or click the blue Enter button in the box.

        @Ascaris
method works, for sure, but clicking on such an embedded link will take you away from AskWoody to the linked site, as will clicking on a regular hyperlink. I usually tick the box to “Open link in a new tab” when embedding a hyperlink.

        Hyperlink

That leaves the thread to which you are replying open in its own tab.

Same here; unless the link is to another AskWoody page.

Susan Bradley and Ascaris – Your recommendations to use “paste as plain text” made all the difference. My post 2394870 above includes the clickable link that I have been trying to post in another reply.

      Thank you very much.

You can insert link through clicking the link icon and paste the url into the column and apply.

Moderator Edit: to remove link. Subject not allowed.
