I recently did a update on my Desktop, then after I did my weekly file backup. I got prompted to install Outlook. Before it got started I closed it out. I have no need for Outlook since I only have two email clients that I regularly use. One of which I pay $5 per month for added features. How do I disable Outlook from doing this to me in the future? Is it simply turn off the app?

What version of Outlook are you referring to?
The App that replaced MS Mail, or Outlook in a perpetual version of Office, or C2R, or 365?

Now that I do not know. It appeared as a notification on my taskbar. I clicked on it to see what it was. If I remember correctly, it was to install the new Outlook. But before I clicked on to setup, I closed the application. If there is a history on my computer that I can access to see which version it was asking. Then I would be glad to let you know.

Do you have MS Office installed on your computer? If so, is it a perpetual version of Office (Office versions 2016 or earlier), or Office C2R (Office 2019 or later), or Office 365?

I found the application in my application history.

It was the ms-launch as in the attached file.

            ms-outlook-launch

I did at one time have Microsoft 365, but no longer have it installed.

What version of Outlook are you referring to? The App that replaced MS Mail…

      Hi Rush2112:

Further to PKCano’s post # 2664873, see the 10-Feb-2024 Neowin article The old Windows Mail app is working again, but not for long for information about Microsoft’s plans to migrate the Mail & Calendar app that is built in to your Windows 10 OS over to a new Outlook for Windows PWA (Progressive Web App). If you don’t use the built-in Mail & Calendar app (which is scheduled to reach end-of-life in Dec 2024) as your email client it’s not something you have to be overly concerned about – if you go to Settings | Apps | Apps and Features and find the new Outlook for Windows app there you can simply ignore it or uninstall it as instructed in Brink’s ElevenForums tutorial at Uninstall or Reinstall New Outlook for Windows app.

A preview of this new Outlook for Windows app was unexpectedly pushed out to my Win 10 Pro v2H22 machine several months ago [see my 08-Nov-2023 post # 2601149 in Peter Deegan’s Why not to use Outlook (new)] and uninstalling it didn’t cause any problems with my default MS Outlook 2019 mail client.  I’ve attached an old image of what my Settings | Apps | Apps and Features looked like in May 2023 before this unwanted app was uninstalled.

If you do uninstall the new Outlook for Windows app from Settings | Apps | Apps and Features, however, it’s possible that Microsoft will eventually try to push it out to your system again at a later date.

Thanks, it is as I suspected it was. I do not use the Mail & Calendar as my mail client(s). I will simply uninstall it and deal with it later if it pops up again in the future.

I have uninstalled it and will refer to this topic in the future if the need arises.
