I was confused at the steps in the recent email by Susan. I would simply like to disable/remove CoPilot off of my Win 10 desktop and my Win 11 laptop both. What are the steps for each of my devices?

After checking the email, the step was pretty easy. Now if windows update would finish I can apply the registry fix to CoPilot.

      Use that registry key.

I screwed up the group policy instructions and will be sending out a revised alert.

I found, downloaded, and executed the registry fix in the link you posted here. Now copilot shows up in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARJavaSofPres\slash\navigation\copilot with data showing “(value not set” – will that disable copilot install or do I need to change the value?

      Thanks for your assistance.

      Hey Y’all,

I’ve updated my CMsStdSettingsForm.ps1 program to add this setting.
      CoPiliot-Disable

You can download it at my shared OneDrive folder.

      Note:

      1. Please read the comment based help file in the .ps1 file.
      2. Once you extract the program to your scripts folder you can have powershell show you the help with the command:
        Get-Help [d:\path\CMsStdSettingsForm.ps1 -Full
      3. You can also download the PDF file with the MD5 Hashes to all my programs so you can check your download.

      Update:
I just re-uploaded (11/28/23 19:50 EST) the files mentioned above. I found that when I’d loaded the program into Visual Studio Code it flagged some variables as never used. Now some of these I knew why it was flagging them because they were referenced by assemblies that are loaded at run time. However, It also flagged one that was not. I looked at it and it seemed it wasn’t needed, however that proved to be untrue when I tested it on another machine. Luckily, I only commented out the 3 instances that VSC flagged so all I had to do was remove the comment marker and all was well again.

Moral of the story don’t fully trust any code you didn’t write personally! YES even mine!

Is it too late to catch the bus on getting Win 10 pro on my machine. Or should I attempt the .reg fix and go with that?

      Hello,

Could you possibly help a simple soul who is out of his depth please, I wanted to install your CMS Std Settings program you mentioned in the reply but I have no idea of where the ICO file needs to go, it says to place it in Scriptroot but how…..

$PSScriptRoot contains the directory from which the script or script module is being executed.

The ICO file needs to be in the same directory as the script and it needs to be called ComputerMentor.ico, so you need to rename the one from the ZIP file.

        cheers, Paul

          Paul,

Thanks for your help, that’s sorted it. Strange it wouldn’t run in Powershell but did in ISE.

          Ken.

Yes thank you, I started looking for a way to stop Copilot being so intrusive but I’m still learning, isn’t it supposed to run at startup?

Also I don’t see the Cortana button.

              Ken.
