I read Susan’s release today in an email. She stated some versions were expiring today. I have a Windows 10 21H2 version PC. Or I believe that I do. It’s been a while since I checked, so bear with me. Hopefully it’s an easy task to check and to get any updates that I’d need.

Simply put, how do I check which version of .NET I am using on my desktop? Then how do I update it should I need to. Note* I am using my Chromebook at the moment.

I did a Google search on how to determine which version of .NET Framework that I have. I have version 4.8.4084.0. I am not in the category of needing any update if I am correct.

Thanks for the information. However I do not understand how to use the information on how to find which version of .NET Framework that I have. I did some research online in Google on how to find out which version that I have. If the version that I mentioned earlier is out of date. Will the website given allow me to update my .NET Framework that Susan mentioned in her post the other day? I wish I understood computers better, unfortunately I do not.

To see the complete list of .NET Framework on your system:
          https://github.com/jmalarcon/DotNetVersions
          • Download and extract v.1.0.0 (latest) shown on right-hand side
          • Double left-click DotNetVersions.exe to view information

Rush2112: If your .NET Framework information is accurate, run updates as per Susan Bradley’s update instructions.

anonymous: if you are not Rush2112,  run the instructions for complete .NET Framework list.

A link in geekdom’s post appears to confirm that what you have IS the latest Net Framework Ver – Hope so, because I have it too. Note, You Left Off a – 0 – as mine is 4.8.04084
Based on the link’s instruction — The Release REG_DWORD value in the registry represents the version of .NET Framework installed, there is a section that shows — Windows 10 May 2021 Update: 528372. THAT is the latest Win 10 Ver on that page. IF you go back to the registry Pg you saw the Version, Go up to Release, Dbl-Clk it, and Chk Decimal. You should see 528372.
Going to attempt an Image here, but hope that helps if no luck….

Different methods reflect slightly different presentations.

I used C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\accessibility.dll information to locate .NET Framework version, although any .dll file in the directory will work:

I show .NET framework 4.8.4161.0 using this version.

I show .net Framework 4.8.04161 using DotNetVersions program which has complete information.

geekdom, we’re 4.8 and you’re 4.0, so, IS YOUR Net Framewk Ver like a subset of Our Net Framework. Different methods about the same Item can’t yield different Ver’s, so WHAT Framework Ver are you speaking of with 4.0?

        See the above post:

I show .NET framework 4.8.4161.0 using find a .dll file in the “correct” directory.

I show .NET Framework 4.8.04161 using DotNetVersions program which has complete information.

Those are both representations of the same .NET Framework version and I have a later version .NET Framework version than you (and I have Windows 11 operating system which may or may not make a difference).

Run updates as per Susan Bradley’s update instructions.

geekdom, sorry I and my ADD missed your 4.8’s further down. Win 11 Surely makes a Ver difference as your — accessibility.dll — Properties method Still shows 4.8.04084 For Me — AND Susan’s ComputerWorld article states “She has (Win 10) Dword Value 528372 for 4.8” that I showed above with 4.8.04084 as Version. DotNetVersions Dnload method shows same.

Note to Rush 2112: I, and maybe you, didn’t have Checked in Settings/ Updates & Security/ Advanced Options …. the Box… “Receive Updates for other MS products when you update Windows”. Per Susan’s Computerworld article: Unless you have this box checked, your system may not get updates for newer .NET platforms installed by apps. Mine is Now chk’d.

Thanks Craig! I did have the box checked for “Receive Updates for other MS products when you update Windows.” I followed the directions in looking for my version of .NET Framework. I show that I have version 4.8.4084.0

If my observation is correct, I have a current .NET Framework version. If I do not, please kindly reply so that I can update it.

I can’t find any article that shows any Net Framework Ver AFTER May 2021 . Since Susan’s recent C-world article states she has Win 10 Dword value 528372 as I and presumably You do, I have to believe we’re up-to-date.

          Thanks Craig.

I should ask what is the Win 10 Dword and how do I find it on my machine?

    • #2442794

Rush, there’s a lot to read – and miss – as I did with Geekdom’s 4.8 lines, and I explained it above in Post #2442575. I think you can read the Registry Path and Dbl Clk’ing the Release Line and Chk’ing Decimal shows you the 528372 Dword value Susan cited. Post back IF you can’t get there.

      Thanks Gentleman for your assistance.

Craig: After some searching and learning new things about my computer early in the Morning. I was able to locate the number associated with the Windows Dword. I show 528372 as my number in the Release location.

I don’t believe that I need further assistance at this point. If you believe that I do, please reply back. Thank you both.
