Will appreciate suggestions to help me easily find if Windows update KB2862966 has been installed on my computer. The Control Panel form showing “installed Updates” does not allow me to copy and paste the contents into a MSWord file (or something similar) so that I could just use a “Find” search.

    Thanks,
    Phil

In Installed Updates at the top right on the bar is a search box where you just enter KB2862966 then press Enter and it will either list it for you or say something like not found.

And welcome to the forum 🙂

You can search Installed Updates from the Search Installed Updates box at the top right of that window, by entering KB2862966.

The top right search doesn’t work. You’ll have to go down the list manually and search for what you are looking for.

It works for me. (We’re talking about Installed Updates, not Update History.)

I concur, it does work but as Bruce says you have to click on the Installed updates link on the update history page. I’m impressed because as you type it shows all entries with those characters – the more you type, the fewer entries you get!

      CliNT,

This is what Bruce is talking about, it had me stumped at first also!

Searching “installed updates” doesn’t work, at least for me.
Cleaning them up with cleanmgr might have had something to do with that.

That search is NOT smart at all. Whole “words” only. If you want to search for a particular fix you must use KB followed immediately by the number. It will filter the more digits you enter.

Wait, punching in “KB” and the first few digits works, gives me a short list, but I cannot get it to work by copy/paste the kb in it’s entirety. [strange]

      CLiNT,

Funny it worked for me on Win 8.1 Update1.

After you pasted did you hit Enter? It will not filter until you do so. HTH

I pasted and hit enter, but nothing happened until I started back spacing on the digits.
Then I started to get a list of the kb files, for which the one I was searching was part.

        for Clint @ 13:57
you may have picked up an invisible character at the end of your “copy” string, and the search worked after you erased the errant character.

Thanks to all for a good, thorough discussion.
