AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2023 at 10:09 am #2578236It’s the way of the world. Kids will try the latest and most risky habit, that’s how teens in earlier generations got hooked on cigarettes. Too much time and money is spent on trying to reform the latest and greatest risk to a population of curious seekers. Call out the harmful facts as they evolve and save lives. Nobody and no institution can save the world, but passing along valuable information might help a few.

Even after many years of stopping with smoking it still can kill you by unexpected (smoking related) lungdiseases; in recent studies it shows about 80%. Even indirect smoking has it’s own role.

AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2023 at 8:08 pm #2578354You’re promoting propaganda under the guise of a computer technology article. Sad. Of course you should quit Smoking. If you can’t or won’t, Ecigs are VASTLY safer than tobacco. Nearly all doctors agree. But the current administration has decided to decimate the industry with the ultimate goal of destroying it completely. In other countries, such as the UK, vaping is encouraged as a safe alternative to tobacco. Smoking tobacco claims millions of lives to lung cancer and other respiratory diseases.
What you inhale with Ecigs:
Vegetable glycerin and/or Propylene Glycol (food grade)
Nicotine (pharmaceutical grade)
Optional natural flavorNote: The other chemicals you claim are in e-liquid were only found in a tiny percentage of products from a few disreputable brands that are no longer in production. In fact, the ALA has deceptive information on that webpage. For example, they claim that Propylene Glycol is dangerous because it’s used in antifreeze when in fact it’s Ethylene Glycol that is poisonous – a completely different product.
What you Inhale when you smoke Cigarettes:
Tar: Proven Carcinogen – Causes Lung Cancer & Kills Millions
Ammonia: Household cleaner
Angelica root extract: Known to cause cancer in animals
Arsenic: Used in rat poisons
Benzene: Used in making dyes, synthetic rubber
Butane: Gas; used in lighter fluid
Carbon monoxide: Poisonous gas
Cadmium: Used in batteries
Cocoa: Toxic when burned and inhaled
Cyanide: Deadly poison
DDT: A banned insecticide
Ethyl Furoate: Causes liver damage in animals
Freon: Used in Air conditioners
Lead: Poisonous
Formaldehyde: Used to preserve dead specimens
Methoprene: Insecticide
Napthalene: Ingredient in mothballs
Methyl isocyanate: Its accidental release killed 2000 people in India
Polonium: Cancer-causing radioactive element
And Hundreds of Other Chemicals. -

AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2023 at 8:34 pm #2578362“Why would anyone in the world want to inhale this stuff?”
Smoking used to be a rite of passage to adulthood. In the early 1970’s, just out of high school, I worked at Blue Cross in Newark, NJ while hoping to discover what I wanted to do with my life. Probably 50-60% smoked at their desks in open plan offices, in the cafeteria, in the bathrooms. When I think back to that time, I find it amazing that the overall USA smoking rate is down to around 10% now. That is an amazingly high successful quit rate. It might also explain why there is so much obesity in our society today as smoking does tend to keep people thinner.
You may also not be aware of how much of a sexual fetish smoking is. There are a huge number of websites of smokers, primarily woman, just smoking. Some are not wearing clothes. [lol]

AskWoody PlusAugust 7, 2023 at 8:43 pm #2578363”
Regulations in the UK restrict e-cigs to 20 milligrams of nicotine per milliliter of e-liquid. A single vape is allowed to contain 2ml of liquid. That adds up to 40mg of nicotine per e-cig. Uncontrolled, back-alley products may contain much more of the drug.
Candy-flavored e-cigs are tasty, especially to children. Vapes also lack the harsh, smoky particulate matter that’s typical of a cigarette’s red-hot tobacco. This means an e-cig user can breathe deeply, inhaling in the process more nicotine than an entire pack of cigarettes. (The Guardian)”
Typical media exaggeration’s. A vaper will not suck in all the nicotine at once, just a smoker will not smoke a pack of cigarettes one after another. Actually, one of the great things about smoking is that it is the perfect drug delivery system for addicts. You can buy your drug at any corner store, easily carry it around with you everywhere and dose as you need by smoking part or all of a cigarette.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 8, 2023 at 1:56 am #2578401I started at about age 12 pilfering my father’s cigarettes. He was man of iron, unlike me. I know he was addicted, but never smoked more than 1o a day. When he was finally diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, which killed him slowly and painfully, he quit. It wasn’t smoking, ironically, that gave him the illness, but working in moldy wheat and undiagnosed tuberculosis. Hi younger brother died at 50 from lung disease. In spite of his example, I was a 30 a day smoker. After quitting for over 3 years, I succumbed to an offer from a fellow MEDICAL SCHOOL classmate. I’m clean now for over 30 years. I used to tell my patients not to have the first smoke (or drink if that was the addiction), would you chip on a weekend if you had been a heroin addict! the most addicting drug on the planet and these companies want to give it to children? Thanks for the article and the discussion.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 16, 2023 at 12:23 am #2581275I’m clean now for over 30 years.
I hope four you and kinn that you will stay clean.
Next week I will accompany an old friend to the lungspecialist. After being free from smoking they found a small spot in his lungs with a ct-scan, trying to find a course why he feels so tired lately.
Hopefully this isn’t a start of small-cell cancer (fingers crossed).
He is clear from smoking for 17 years, though once being a smoker there is Always a chance lungdeseases will develope. And what are the chances right now in this post-corona time?* _ ... _ * -

AskWoody PlusAugust 16, 2023 at 1:54 pm #2581431Was he getting annual low dose lung scans up until his 15th year of not smoking? That might have caught the spot.
The USPSTF recommends annual screening for lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in adults aged 50 to 80 years who have a 20 pack-year smoking history and currently smoke or have quit within the past 15 years. Screening should be discontinued once a person has not smoked for 15 years or develops a health problem that substantially limits life expectancy or the ability or willingness to have curative lung surgery.

AskWoody PlusAugust 8, 2023 at 6:36 am #2578400Thankfully here in Australia, the government finally got off its butt and has started outright banning the damn things. Of course, this was only after lots of kids got hooked on them…
So now you can only get them if you get a prescription from your GP as a quit smoking aid. Shops selling them will be prosecuted, as will people importing them.
“Under Australian law, it is illegal to buy, possess or use liquid nicotine for vaping without a prescription from a registered Australian medical practitioner.”
No matter where you go, there you are.

Of course. Same with the drink/alcohol advertisers. Then there is the military industrial complex which is only interested in more wars because that is how they make their money. And sundry other industries. Welcome to capitalism.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 30, 2024 at 8:53 am #2691708E-cigarettes can only know your age indirectly. Most age verification happens during the purchase process, either online or in stores, where ID checks are required. Juul’s new technology might involve some form of digital age verification, but it’s likely still reliant on the info you provide, not some magic way to detect age automatically.

By the way, for those looking to explore different options, Crave Max 2500 is an electronic cigarette I have been using. Personally for me, it feel safer than other electronic cigarettes.

Probably you mean well, but how Ignorant this is.
eCigarettes do adict and kill, just like ‘normal’ tobacco.
You can get tons of info about this, but maybe the American Chest-Physians are much much better?* _ ... _ *Viewing 13 reply threads -
