I was encouraged to run HouseCall from Trend Micro. Having done so, my PC was left with dozens of HouseCall files scattered all over the place. Their phone support person said they would all disappear once I rebooted. This didn’t happen. Then I was told to run HouseCall again. I did so, then rebooted, but all the files still remained. So I did a search for anything with HouseCall in the file name and deleted them all manually. Some years ago, in my Windows98 days, I installed Pc-cillin but eventaully removed it because of all the problems it caused. Has anyone else had problems with Trend Micro products?

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

AskWoody LoungerNovember 23, 2006 at 7:54 am #1040110For me and the five laptops in my office, I have had zero issues with TrendMicro Internet Security Suite. I converted to it in 2003 because HouseCall made me a believer when I scanned clients computers and removed problems their AV did not find. All my computers are and have been virus/spyware and trojan free since then. I also like the added spam filter for Outlook and the average of 3 updates per day.

AskWoody LoungerNovember 23, 2006 at 5:05 pm #1040189Funny you should mention that.
I recently clicked on the link here at the Lounge just to try Housecall. It ran fine but rather slow and said it found 5 or 6 “problems” that other programs didn’t find. I let it delete them and just went on my way. Afterwards while looking at some things in Windows Explorer, I also noticed a group of files in a Housecalls folder on my C; drive.
I was surprised at this since I thought the on line check was just that, online with no file residue left over.
I didn’t find anything in AddRemove to get rid of them, so I tried to delete them from WE. No good.
Finally, I had to use the unlocker program to delete them.
I didn’t care too much for that experience at all, but didn’t bother to get in touch with Trend Micro about it. -
