I have the attached horiz bar chart. I had to move some of the number so they didn’t overlap the labels but I also need to move the labels out of the bar.

Is there a way I can do this, am i using the wrong type of bar graph to depict this data

Also, is there a utility that can be used to fix the labels and data points so they are readable?

      Hi there

It seems a bit difficult with this format. I tried to format the axis. On the Alignment tab I offset to the maximum level of 1000, sadly this did not move the data far enough out. However by changing the chart to a 3d Bar Chart it was able to reassign the data tags like below

If you select the vertical (category) axis you can set the “Tick Mark Labels” either to “Low” (all labels will be on the left side of the chart) or “High” (all on the right).

You should have a look at Bob Bovey’s handy free utility, the XY Chart Labeler at appspro.com. Although the name implies that it will be good for X-Y charts, it provides useful utilities for all sorts of charts.

The way I would do it:
dbl-click the verical axis(get the Format axis dialog)
      pattern(tab)
Click “Low” for “Tick Mark Labels”

Dbl-click a “data Label” (get the Format data labels dialog)
      Alignment (tab)
Label position – Choose “Outside End”
