In order to pause KB5037768 I just installed & used WuShowHideDiag.cab on my Win10 Pro 22H2 laptop and received the attached list of 14 updates.  Are all these really waiting to be installed on my machine?

Should I install them all (except that KB)?  The laptop dates from December 2019, when it was the latest version.

If so, in date order, subdivided by mfr?  It’s true that the laptop lost the ability to print to the laserjet some months back, so I’d like to believe the HP updates would help; but there’s SO much I don’t know about all this.  Thanks in advance for assistance.

With the exception of the very first item on the list (the definition update for Defender) and the monthly update that you’ve check-marked already (KB5037768), the remaining items are either drivers or firmware updates.

The firmware updates are shown with (obviously) the word “Firmware” in their name.

The drivers are the remaining items in the list that don’t say “firmware” in their name.

BOTH of these types of items are usually never downloaded and installed via Windows Update but, instead, are downloaded directly from the hardware manufacturer’s website in the form of an executable file and then installed.

From the looks of things, you have a Lenovo branded laptop. It would be a good idea for you go to Lenovo’s support website and then see what support downloads such as firmware and drivers are available for your specific laptop. You will need your model number and possibly your laptop’s serial number or some other type of identifier for it in order to be shown the correct driver updates and firmware updates for it.

Same goes for your HP LaserJet printer…get the drivers for it directly from HP’s site. All they will need is your printer’s model number to be able to show you the latest drivers for it. The latest driver may very well get it back up and running with regards to being able to use it for printing from your laptop again.

For now, feel free to hide all of the updates shown except the definition update for Defender unless you don’t use Windows (Microsoft) Defender as your antivirus/antimalware solution on your laptop. If you don’t use Defender, then feel free to hide the definition update as well.

      KB2267602 is a Defender Update.
KB5037768 Is the 2024-05 (May) CU – still under DEFCON-2.

      The rest are driver updates.
It is best to get driver updates from the OEM, in this case Lenovo for the laptop (Lenovo, Intel) instead of Microsoft.
I have not use MS’s HP Printer drivers, so I cannot give you advice on those.

If you have Win10 Pro, It is easier to control Windows Update if you use Group Policy. See AKB2000016 for information. Section 3 and 5 are applicable. There are screenshots at the bottom to show where the settings are. You can also prevent download/install of drivers in GP.
